| Q: It is taking a long
time to run Political-Neighborhood Walks. What should I do?
A: The Neighborhood Walks
procedure is designed to direct a walker(s) on the most efficient route to
take when visiting voters. We recommend picking a subset of the streets in
your area, and/or a subset of the overall voters.
For
example, my voter list includes information on the sex, race and age of
voters. I believe that black female voters over the age of 50 will be
critical to my campaign success. I can create a subset of voters called
“Targeted Voters” that meet these criteria using Selection-Select by
Condition.

You
can find more information on Selecting by Condition under “Answering
Questions about Attributes” in Chapter 10, Location Attributes and
Queries, in the Maptitude User’s Guide.
I may
also know that among these “Targeted Voters,” I am most interested in
visiting those in a particular neighborhood. I can use the selection tools
(described in detail under “Selecting Features with the Selection Tools” of
Chapter 10, Location and Attribute Queries, of the Maptitude User’s
Guide) to create a subset of the streets I would like to visit.
Then,
when you run Political-Neighborhood Walks, you can specify the
“Targeted Voters” and the “Streets to Visit”.
