NEWTON,
MASSACHUSETTS - The Colorado General Assembly and the Colorado
Reapportionment Commission are about to launch an interactive mapping web
site for publishing redistricting plans. The current congressional and state
legislative boundaries and any number of proposed plans can be published on
the site. The site will be available to anyone with internet access. The
site was built by Caliper Corporation using Maptitude for the Web
technology. For a preview, click on
http://www.caliper.com/redistrict/colorado/
.
Plans are organized
into three categories: State House Plan, State Senate Plan, and
Congressional Plan. First click a category to select it. Then select a plan
in that category. Since new plans have not yet been developed, only the
existing plan is listed. As Colorado builds new plans, they can add them to
the list of plans.
Try clicking on Find/Change Location, and enter Denver in the City Field.
You might also try entering NCSL's address, 1560 Broadway in Denver. Note
that House and Senate plans can be linked. In addition to displaying
selected attribute data for a district (Colorado can control the attributes
that are displayed), they can publish as many reports as they wish for the
entire plan. For example, for the Current State House, they have included
Population Summary and Measures of Compactness reports. These reports were
created using Maptitude for Redistricting.
Caliper Corporation is in the process of building redistricting web sites
for other redistricting clients including the Wyoming Legislature, the
Maryland Legislature, and the RNC. For more information on using Maptitude
for the Web technology for your own site, please contact Howard Simkowitz,
