NEWTON, MASSACHUSETTS;
March 24,2005 -
Caliper Corporation has released detailed time
series demographic data for the period from April 1990 to July 2004, based
on 2000 Census Tracts. The tables contain population estimates by age, race,
sex, and Hispanic origin. These tables allow detailed demographic analysis
of the changes in population characteristics at almost 60 time points over
15 years. By using 2000 Census Tracts, the data for the whole time series
has a common geographic base.
Two tables are
provided in the Caliper fixed-format binary format that can be used with any
Caliper GIS software product. One table contains, for each quarter, the
total estimated population plus a table with 304 variables cross-tabulating
19 categories of age (under 1, 1-4, five year age groups from 5-9 to 80-84,
and 85+), 4 categories of race (White,
Black, American Indian and Alaska Native, and Asian and Pacific Islander), 2
categories of sex (Male and Female), and 2 categories of Hispanic
(Non-Hispanic or Latino origin, and Hispanic or Latino origin).
Another
table contains, for each quarter,
the total estimated population plus 27 marginals totaling each category of
age, race, sex, and Hispanic. The computations are based on the 1990 Census,
the 2000 Census, Census Bureau county-level estimates for each July 1st from
1990 to 2003, and Census Bureau state-level estimates for July 1, 2004.
The
Quarterly Tract Population Estimates are available nationwide on a DVD or
for custom areas such as a state, county, or metropolitan region on a CD.
