Sources for Electricity Generation by State

Maptitude is the best mapping software for business intelligence! This series of maps shows the percentage of electricity generated in each state by the four most common sources, coal, natural gas, nuclear, and conventional hydro.

Coal, which is the dirtiest of these sources, generates over 90% of the electricity in Kentucky and West Virginia, and over 75% of the electricity in Wyoming, Indiana, Missouri, Utah, and North Dakota. By contrast, conventional hydro power accounts for more than half of the electricity generated in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Nuclear power is responsible for over half the electricity generated in Vermont (72%), South Carolina (54%), and New Hampshire (52%).
