Maptitude® On-Line Training

Introductory Maptitude: Lesson 4

Dataviews

4.2 Dataview Basics: Record, Field, and Cell
  • Record: A row in a dataview that represents one person, place or thing, and contains one or more fields or columns
  • Field: A column in a dataview that contains one type of data about
    each record or row
  • Cell: A field in a record that contains
    one piece of data

At the top of each column is a heading that contains the name of the field. If the name of a field contains spaces or other special characters, Maptitude puts square brackets around it in the dataview. For example, a field titled "County Name" would be displayed as [County Name] because there is a space between County and Name.

Some fields in a dataview may include additional information, such as data source information. If there is additional info about a field in a dataview, positioning the cursor over the field heading displays a popup window that holds the additional information.
