| Maptitude lets you select features in one layer based on how
close they are to features in another layer (or, based on how far away they are). The
other layer is called the reference layer. As always, the layer from which you
select features is the working layer of the map or dataview. Choose Selection-Select by Location for the
Select by Location dialog box.
Based on whether the working and reference layers are points, lines, or areas, there
can be different options for selecting map features:
- Touching or Contained
selects features that are contained within or touch
features in the reference layer
- Inside
selects features that are inside features in the reference layer
- Not Inside
selects features that are not inside features in the reference
layer
- Within
selects features located within the specified distance of features in the
reference layer
- Not Within
selects features that are not within the specified distance of
features in the reference layer
- Closest and Within
selects features that are closest to and within a specified
distance of the features in the reference layer
- Connected
selects line features that begin or end at the endpoints selected in
the reference layer, or selects endpoint features that are at the ends of the lines
selected in the reference layer
