Multi-Platform Software Engineer

Full-time position at our headquarters: 1172 Beacon Street, Newton MA 02461 USA


Multi-Platform Software Engineer (Caliper Corporation, Newton, Massachusetts): Caliper produces complex dynamic modeling and traffic simulation utilized by many in the field of transportation science, which requires advanced software to facilitate research both within the Company and for our clients. As Multi-Platform Software Engineer, will be responsible for developing new features and functionalities in the Caliper’s geographic information systems and transportation software products. Will work with Caliper’s transportation and software groups to implement and deploy new methods for modeling network performance and reliability in Caliper’s TransCAD and TransModeler software products. Will develop and engineer components of the Caliper’s various software products based on unique and innovative modeling and methodology developed by the Company. Multiple openings.


Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Incorporate new methods in Caliper’s commercial mapping and transportation software products.
  • Apply analytical skills including algorithm development, application of machine learning, and utilization of large databases to develop and improve software products.
  • Develop Software-as-a-Service mapping web applications using JavaScript Vue.js and Node.js frameworks and various Amazon Web Services (AWS) products including DynamoDB and Amazon S3.
  • Design responsive mobile-oriented User Interfaces (“UIs”) and implement interactive maps powered by Mapbox/Leaflet.
  • Maintain large-scale geographic analysis desktop applications using C/C++ and GISDK script language.
  • Design and develop customized visualization analysis tools for state level Department of Transportation ("DOT") and Metropolitan Planning Organizations in Virginia, West Virginia, and Indianapolis, and other regions to assist their traffic planning and analysis.

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field.

Must also have: (I) Demonstrated mastery of multiple software languages including objected-oriented languages for desktop, server, mobile, and web platforms; (II) Programming background in C++; (III) Analytical skills including algorithm development; (IV) Demonstrated ability to work with large databases. (V) Background in data science or machine learning.
