Alabama Redistricting: Litigation Continues while Maps Approved by the Alabama Legislature will be used in the November Election

In 2023, the Supreme Court affirmed the federal trial court's ruling that Alabama's map violated the Voting Rights Act. The state redrew it. In May 2025, a federal panel ruled the new map still violated the VRA and found discriminatory intent. The maps above compare Alabama's original 2021 congressional districts with the 2023 plan enacted by the Alabama Legislature. The Supreme Court has allowed Alabama to use its 2023 redrawn map for the 2026 elections while litigation continues.
