NEWTON,
MASSACHUSETTS - The Wyoming State Legislature is about to launch an
interactive mapping web site for publishing redistricting plans. The current
state legislative boundaries and any number of proposed plans can be
published on the site (Wyoming has only one Congressional seat). The site
will be available to anyone with internet access. The site was built by
Caliper Corporation using Maptitude for the Web technology. For a preview,

Plans and maps
are organized into three categories: State House Plan, State Senate Plan,
and Demographic Maps. First click a category to select it. Then select a
plan in that category. Since new plans have not yet been developed, only the
existing plan is listed. As Wyoming builds new plans and creates new
demographic maps, they can add them to the list of plans and maps.
Create a map of
the current state senate districts. Click on Find/Change Location, and enter
6 in the Senate District Number box. The map displays all of Senate District
6. Use the Zoom In tool to show more detail. Then use the Info tool to
display additional information about the district.
Note that House
and Senate plans can be linked. In addition to displaying selected attribute
data for a district (Wyoming can control the attributes that are displayed),
they can publish as many reports as they wish for the entire plan. For
example, for the Current State Senate, they have included Population Summary
and Political Subdivision Splits reports. These reports were created using
Maptitude for Redistricting.
