Modifying a Map

You can modify an open map in several ways:

To Add Data to an Existing Map

  1. Open a map and click  Add Data on the Sidebar.
  2. Choose My data/table/spreadsheet from the radio list to add your data as a layer in an existing map.
  3. Click Choose File and choose an Excel or CSV file that contains the data to be mapped, or enter address information and/or longitude and latitude information in the spreadsheet and add any additional fields of data. (You can click Return to Map to cancel and start over.)
  4. If you uploaded an Excel file that contains more than one worksheet, choose the sheet that contains the data to be mapped.
  5. Click Next and follow the Create-a-Map Wizard prompts to specify the type of map, theme, and analysis.
  6. Click Finish.

Maptitude Online adds the data to the existing map and switches back to the map view.

To Add a Base Layer to an Existing Map

  1. Open a map and click Add Data on the Sidebar.
  2. Choose Boundaries (ZIP Codes, States, etc.) with or without Demographics from the radio list and click Next.
  3. Choose a layer that you would like to add to the map and click Next.
  4. Choose up to 12 demographic fields of data for the layer by checking the box next to a field in the scroll list and click Next. Note, all of the available fields will be listed in the scroll list. You can choose to filter the fields by category from the drop-down list or enter a few characters in the Filter box to find fields that contain the characters that you enter.
  5. Choose whether to show a theme using one or more of the Census demographic fields that you selected or choose None to display just the layer's boundaries. For more information on themes, see Types of Themes.
  6. Optionally, choose one of the fields that you added to label the features in the layer from the Display Labels drop-down list.
  7. Click Finish.

Maptitude Online add the layer to the existing map and switches back to the map view.

To Add or Modify a Theme to a Point Layer on the Map

  1. Click + next to the layer you want to use.
  2. Add or modify a theme on the layer as follows:
    To do this... Do this...
    Add a color theme Click the Add Theme button, choose Color Theme from the radio list, choose the field on which to base the theme, and click Finish. See Color Themes for more information.
    Add a size theme Click the Add Theme button, choose Size Theme from the radio list, choose the field on which to base the theme, and click Finish. See Size Themes for more information
    Add a pie chart theme Click the Add Theme button, choose Chart Theme from the radio list, choose one or more fields on which to base the theme, and click Finish. See Chart Themes for more information.
    Add a symbol theme Click the Add Theme button, choose Symbol Theme from the radio list, choose the field on which to base the theme, and click Finish. See Symbol Themes for more information.
    Add a cluster theme Click the Add Theme button, choose Cluster Theme from the radio list, and click Finish. See Cluster Themes for more information.
    Add a heat map theme Click the Add Theme button, choose Heat Map Theme from the radio list, and click Finish. See Density/Heat Themes for more information.
    Remove a theme Expand the drop-down list and click next to the theme you want to delete.
    Modify a color theme Expand the drop-down list and click next to the theme you want to modify, choose a color palette, number of classes, method  for defining the classes, and click Finish.
    Modify a size theme Expand the drop-down list and click next to the theme you want to modify, choose whether to use the default color or a custom color, choose whether to use the automatic sizes or specific sizes (in pixels) for specific low and high values, and click Finish.
    Modify a pie chart theme Expand the drop-down list and click next to the theme you want to modify, choose a chart type, choose the colors for each chart value, choose whether to use the automatic sizes or specific sizes (in pixels) for specific loa and high values, and click Finish.
    Modify a symbol theme Expand the drop-down list and click next to the theme you want to modify, choose whether to use the default color or a custom color, choose symbols for specific values, and click Finish.

Maptitude Online adds or updates the theme on the point layer in the map.

To Perform Analysis on a Point Layer on the Map

  1. Click + next to the layer you want to use.
  2. Make choices as follows:
    To do this... Do this...
    Build buffers around all of the features Click the Add Analysis button, choose Buffers from the radio list, specify the buffer sizes and units, choose whether to calculate a population overlay for the buffers, and click Finish. See Buffers for more information.
    Build areas of influence around all of the features Click the Add Analysis button, choose Areas of Influence from the radio list, choose whether to calculate a population overlay for the areas, and click Finish. See Areas of Influence for more information.
    Find the weighted center of all of the features Click the Add Analysis button, choose Weighted Center from the radio list, choose a weighting field from the list, and click Finish. See Weighted Center for more information.

Maptitude Online adds the chosen layer to the map.

TIP: You can also create buffers, areas of influence, and weighted centers for a filtered set of features instead of all of the features in a layer. See Working with Selected Features in a Map for more information on working with filtered sets.
