Maptitude Creating Jobs Nationwide

The US Small Business Administration (SBA) provides a Maptitude for the Web application to determine if a property qualifies as low income (under the New Markets Venture Capital Program) or whether an address is in a Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUB Zones).

The HUBZone Program stimulates economic development and creates jobs in urban and rural communities by providing Federal contracting preferences to small businesses. The powerful Maptitude HUBZone Mapping tool can be seen in action here.

Maptitude for the Web has all of the tools you need to create compelling and attractive maps, plus special capabilities for designing and running interactive web mapping applications and GIS web services. For more information on Maptitude for the Web, click here.

Tech Tip:
Creating Masks to Show Only Your Area of Interest

Mask MapMaptitude 2012 provides a new, and much faster, masking tool (see the training video).

The new mask tool has been completely overhauled in Maptitude 2012, and allows you to quickly hide the portion of a may you do not wish to display.

The following steps walk you through this task:

1. Choose File-New, choose Map from the New File dialog box, and click OK. This brings you to the Create-a-Map Wizard.

2. Choose the General Purpose Map option, then choose A County, type the name of a county (e.g., Cook IL) in the Name box, click Next, and click Finish.

3. Choose County as the working layer from the drop-down list on the toolbar.

4. If the Selection toolbar is not open, choose Tools-Selection. Click Select by Pointing Button on the Selection toolbar to activate the Select by Pointing tool.

5. Click on a County to select it. This will be the county used for masking.

6. Choose Tools-Geographic Utilities-Mask.

7. Choose Selection from the Selection drop-down list.

8. Click OK. Maptitude creates the mask and adds it to the map so that only your County is visible.
