Maptitude for the Web is the best web mapping software for providing interactive access to maps and data on your web site. Retailers can enable customers to find the closest store; government agencies can provide the public with easier access to data; and businesses can give their employees access to geographic analysis tools.

Maptitude for the Web has all of the tools you need to create compelling and attractive maps, plus special capabilities for designing and running interactive map applications and location-based services on the World Wide Web. You can quickly create simple applications without programming by assembling existing controls and linking them to any geographic data. Experienced programmers can create complex web applications and web services by accessing a rich set of .NET classes and modifying the source code for the existing templates.

Maptitude for the Web includes the following:

  • A robust GIS platform that lets you create and edit attractive and informative maps
  • Menus and tools for easily transforming any map into a web mapping application
  • A development environment for creating, compiling, and testing ASP.NET web mapping applications; A separate application development environment is not required
  • New and revised Mapplications: ASP.NET templates for web forms, user controls and web services; The templates include the most common mapping functions: locating assets, geocoding, reverse geocoding, finding the nearest asset, drawing thematic maps and selecting data on the map
  • Complete source code and tutorials for all of the Mapplications
  • .NET classes with methods for drawing map images, selecting data by geographic location, and filling ADO.NET and XML datasets that can be displayed by any data bound web control (e.g., DataGrid, DataList, and Repeater).
  • Additional templates that support mapping applications written in Active Server Pages (ASP) and VBScript. Maptitude for the Web 4.7 allows side-by-side execution of ASP.NET applications and ASP applications written for older versions of Maptitude for the Web.

With Maptitude for the Web, you can quickly add mapping capabilities to your web site by following a few steps:

  • Create a map: Maptitude for the Web is based on Caliper’s Maptitude® Geographic Information System software, and features the tools, wizards, and data you need to quickly and easily create maps.
  • Choose a Mapplication®: Use one of the included application templates, or create your own application by customizing the many web forms and user controls provided with Maptitude for the Web.
  • Set the parameters: For each web form or user control, choose how the application will work and how it will look.
  • Compile and test the application: Compile any source code, then use a local web server to make sure all of the settings are right.
  • Publish the application: Copy the application to one or more servers running Maptitude for the Web so that anyone on the Internet can interact with your map.

When you design your application, you assemble the controls you need
and you set their parameters. The parameters bind the controls to your data.

Who Benefits from Maptitude for the Web
Maptitude for the Web is robust enough to meet the specific needs of all types of users:

Map designers can use all of the capabilities of Maptitude to design maps that communicate. You have complete control over the display settings of map features. Choose the style of features, the scales at which they are visible, and how and when they are labeled. MapWizard® automatic mapping technology helps you create color and pattern maps, dot-density maps, scaled-symbol maps, and maps with integrated pie charts and bar charts.

Web site designers can incorporate Maptitude for the Web controls into other web pages. You can modify the HTML tags or modify the graphic elements to maintain a consistent design within your web site. Additionally, you can use web authoring tools to make adjustments to the layout and content of your application.

Application developers can extend the functions provided by Maptitude for the Web by programming custom web forms, user controls and web services in ASP.NET and XML. All of the powerful geographic and database functions of GISDK, the Caliper GIS Developer's Kit, can be included in a web application. You can develop your own templates and distribute them to map designers who can use them to quickly customize applications with different maps and different geographic layers. In addition Maptitude for the Web integrates with Visual Studio.NET.

Data Access
Maptitude for the Web lets you create maps using your own data. Map data from dBASE files and text files directly, or access data from any ODBC compliant data source such as Access, Oracle, or SQL Server. You can also use raster images such as satellite or aerial photographs directly in your maps. These images can be used as a means of reference or in conjunction with the map editing tools to create or edit geographic files.

You can map ESRI Shapefiles, MapInfo TAB files, and Oracle Spatial tables directly. With the built-in translators, you can also import geographic data from other desktop mapping, GIS, and CAD packages, as well as many common file formats.

User Services
Caliper provides custom application and turnkey system development services, including web page creation. Caliper also offers Maptitude and GISDK training in classroom settings or on-site at your location. Our training can be customized to your needs and user group.
