Block Group and Tract Layers with Census 2010 Redistricting and Group Quarters Data Available for Download

NEWTON MA (USA) - Caliper Corporation is making the first 2010 Census data available for download to all TransCAD users. The data come from the Census 2010 Redistricting Data (PL94-171) and the 2010 Census Advance Group Quarters Summary File.

The full PL94-171 data set contains basic information on the U.S. population from the 2010 Census. Included are data on people's race and whether they are of Hispanic origin, for both the total and the adult (18+) population. The Caliper Corporation PL94-171 data are a subset of the 345 fields in the full data set; not included are all of the combinations of the six racial categories, which are White, Black or African American, American Indian and Alaska Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, and Some Other Race. The subset includes counts for total population, non-Hispanic, 18+, and non-Hispanic 18+ by the single races and 2+ races, as well as any part and no part for each race. There are also counts for Hispanic origin, Hispanic 18+, occupied and vacant housing units.

The 2010 Census Advance Group Quarters Summary File has fields for group quarter populations. The institutionalized populations are correctional facilities for adults, juvenile facilities, nursing facilities/skilled-nursing facilities, and other institutional facilities. The noninstitutionalized populations are college/university student housing, military quarters, and other noninstitutional facilities.
