Software Developer

Analyst

The analyst position is an entry level position at our Newton MA headquarters. Analysts will perform a variety of activities including market analysis, database development, product testing, technical support, and product marketing. Analysts will assist businesses in using Caliper software to achieve their business planning and analytical goals. They will also participate in consulting and research projects for corporations and government agencies.

Analysts will work with senior staff most of whom have advanced degrees and a high degree of expertise in their chosen fields. Analysts will be exposed to sophisticated methods of analysis and the application of the latest geographic information software tools.

Analysts may also have the opportunity to rotate through different roles in product development and testing, business strategy, marketing and sales, and information technology. It is expected that Analysts will return to school after several years to pursue advanced degrees although promotion with Caliper is not precluded.

The positions require core competencies of strong quantitative, written, and oral communication skills. Prior knowledge of excel, one or more econometric/statistical analysis packages, and some programming ability, as well as a BA or BS with academic distinction in economics, social science, geography, management, or a related field are required.

Technical Support Specialist

Caliper is seeking technical staff at our Newton MA headquarters to provide support to users of our mapping, redistricting, transportation, traffic simulation, and GIS software. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide customer service. The candidate must communicate directly with customers, resolve their questions, process their requests, uncover and understand unspoken needs, and provide expert advice about the software’s features and capabilities. The guiding purpose is to help customers achieve success with the software.

Responsibilities include:

  • Answer incoming phone calls to the technical support “hotline”.
  • Respond to emails through the technical support customer-relations-management (CRM) system.
  • Achieve expert-level proficiency with the software product itself.
  • Respond to all inquiries knowledgeably, to the extent possible.
  • Research any elements of customer inquiry that are unknown.
  • Work in coordination with Sales and Accounting departments to help resolve issues with licensing, delivery and deployment of software licenses.
  • Work in coordination with Software Development department to investigate and solve technical problems with the software.
  • Achieve customer satisfaction through communication and action that is delivered promptly and thoroughly.
  • Manage multiple inquiries simultaneously.
  • Achieve expert-level proficiency with CRM system.
  • Author bug reports.
  • Review and test software updates.
  • Contribute to content for promotional material and/or web site.

Administrator

Caliper Corporation, located in Newton MA, is looking for administrators. You will be part of the administrative backbone of our thriving software and consulting services company. You are responsible for independently carrying out the tasks of the administration department and, to a lesser degree, for providing direct support to our highly educated professional staff. In our busy office, the administrator is fulfilling multiple tasks and responding to a heavy load of email through our customer-relations-management (CRM) system. Administrators are also responsible for phone coverage, office maintenance, and the daily preparation and shipping of our software products.

Responsibilities include:

  • Answering the phone, accurately recording caller contact details, and forwarding calls to the appropriate staff members
  • Deploying phone and email sales inquiries and technical support requests through our internal CRM system
  • Data entry and order processing
  • Shipping Caliper software products, which includes burning DVDs, assembling packages, and using shipping software to generate shipping labels and customs invoices
  • Receiving packages and mail and distributing to employees
