For each state the bank with the most complaints between 2011 until the present was mapped. Bank of America tops the complaints list, coming in first in 35 states. Wells Fargo comes a distant 2nd with seven states.
The Consumer Complaint Database was used to create the map, and was obtained from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). The CFPB is responsible for consumer protection in the financial sector under the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act in response to the financial crisis of 2007–08 and the subsequent Great Recession.
