Concentration of Top U.S. Burger Chains

Maptitude is the best mapping software for business intelligence! This series of maps shows the geographic concentration of the largest U.S. burger chain restaurants. Restaurants are just one of the many business layers available with Maptitude 2019.

Maptitude density/heat layers are a way to visualize and analyze point data and find hot spots. We created density layers for twelve of the largest U.S. burger chains to visualize the distribution of those restaurants. McDonald's is by far the largest national chain (14,000 stores) and has substantial coverage across the United States. Burger King, Wendy's, Dairy Queen, and Sonic all have over 3,000 stores and national coverage, though Sonic restaurants skew more heavily to the South. CKE Restaurants Holdings operates both Carl's Jr and Hardee's, and you can see a distinct East/West split between the two brands. Among the smaller chains, only Five Guys (1,200 stores) has a national presence with no particular regional dominance. The remaining restaurant chains all tend to be more regional in scope. Jack in the Box (2,300 stores) is concentrated on the West Coast, Arizona, Texas, and St. Louis, Whataburger (814 stores) is primarily in Texas, Steak 'n Shake (549 stores) is primarily in the Midwest and Southeast, and White Castle (412 stores) is concentrated in the Midwest and New York City.
