Currently U.S. regulators are considering a merger between T-Mobile and Sprint. The two companies are a distant third and fourth to Verizon and AT&T in terms of customers. All of the companies have a significant retail presence in the United States with anywhere from 4300 to 5600 nationwide stores each. The map below shows which retailer has the greatest presence in each state:

• Verizon is predominant in 20 states
• AT&T is predominant in 15 states and Puerto Rico
• Cricket Wireless (a prepaid service owned by AT&T) is predominant in 6 states
• T-Mobile is predominant in 4 states and the District of Columbia
• U.S. Cellular is predominant in 4 states
• Sprint is predominant in just one state
