DEFINITION

What is Route Optimization?

Route optimization is when you arrange the order to visit destinations so as to cut down on the amount of travel among the waypoints. When you choose this method (also known as solving the Traveling Salesman Problem), you have the option of preserving the first and/or last stops.

A GIS such as Maptitude determines the best order to visit the stops to minimize travel time or distance and displays the route on the map. Maptitude can also find the best order to visit the destinations and return to your origin depot. Maptitude can also optimize routes that account for vehicle capacity constraints, hours of operation, and more.
