Here are some highlights:
TransModeler 8.0 includes a revamped interactive time-space diagram for coordinated systems. This powerful tool includes built-in offset optimization, support for mixed half-cycle lengths, the ability to show link and/or arterial bands, the option to display inbound and/or outbound flows, the display of the ring-and-barrier diagrams for each intersection, and the calculated travel times between intersections.
TransModeler 8.0 now allows the user to explicitly define overlaps in signal timing plans in the same way they are defined in signal controllers. This makes it simpler to translate signal timing plans into TransModeler as well as to accommodate bike lane, bus, and pedestrian treatments and common signal timing designs, such as those for diamond interchanges.
Simulation models are routinely validated by comparing simulated volumes to traffic counts. New reports in the Output Manager make it easy to make these comparisons and to compute relevant goodness-of-fit measures such as regression parameters, R-squared value, and the percent root mean squared error.
In addition to scatter plots and goodness-of-fit measures, you can create thematic goodness-of-fit maps to visualize and evaluate where the model does and does not fit well with traffic counts. Simply choose the fields representing your traffic counts, and a thematic map will be created that color-codes segments by percent error and scales segment width to reflect absolute error. Dig deeper by clicking on any segment to display the temporal profile of the errors.
Crosswalk geometry is now far more flexible in TransModeler 8, allowing crosswalks to be placed deeper inside intersections and at a wider range of angles. Adding crosswalks has also been made easier. Click a lone across the intersection or road representing the location and angle of the crosswalk, and the road editing tools will create positionally and geometrically accurate crossings.
Accurately capturing the temporal changes in demand is critical to simulating the formation and duration of bottlenecks and oversaturated conditions. Multi-period turning volumes can now be easily generated from input static turning movement volumes based on data or by defining a temporal curve.
Key driver behavior models now better capture acceleration and lane-changing decisions in networks of ever-increasing complexity, including those with on-street parking lanes, bicycle lanes, bus lanes, and peak-period shoulder or HOV lanes. Drivers are also more adept at maneuvering around incidents and queuing and through congested merging and weaving areas, averting gridlock without compromising behavioral integrity. A new parameter can be utilized to govern the percent utilization of peak period shoulder lanes.
When importing a Synchro model where the coordinate system is not known requires the identification of common points between a map of the Synchro model and a geographically accurate reference map. TransModeler 8.0 dramatically simplifies this process by using street names in the Synchro model to automatically locate intersections by latitude and longitude.
