For National Pretzel Day (April 26) we mapped over 2,100 pretzel stores nationwide, from the big national chains such as Auntie Anne's and Wetzel's Pretzels to individual specialty stores, and computed the number of stores per 500,000 people in each state. The national average is 3.17 stores per 500,000. Pretzels seem to be particularly popular in the Mid-Atlantic states with Pennsylvania (10.97), Delaware (9.56), and New Jersey (8.16) all well above the national average.
