The Healthcare Providers layer is a point file with the location of 6.7 million healthcare providers and includes taxonomy code(s) for each provider. For this map we selected all of the providers whose primary taxonomy code is 208000000X, "Physicians, Pediatrics" and aggregated them by state and then computed their distribution based on the population age 0-17 in each state. Washington DC (43.9 pediatricians/10,000 children) has the most pediatricians per capita, followed by Massachusetts (18.4), and Rhode Island (15.9). Idaho (4.4), Nevada (5.3), and Puerto Rico (5.6) have the lowest concentration of pediatricians.
