For National Tattoo Day (July 17) we mapped the concentration of tattoo parlors by state. Nationwide, there are 7.7 tattoo parlors per 100,000 population. Hawaii (20.0) and Oregon (19.0) have more than double the national average, followed by Vermont (14.1), and Alaska (13.9). Conversely, South Carolina (3.5), Mississippi (3.7), and Washington DC (4.0) have the lowest concentration of tattoo parlors.
